Sidney, established in 1851, serves as the county seat of Fremont County and is one of Iowa’s smallest county seats. The town was originally intended to be named Dayton, but at the suggestion of a resident, it was renamed after her hometown of Sidney, Ohio. Sidney is renowned for hosting the Sidney Iowa Championship Rodeo, which has been an annual event since 1924.
