Waverly, located in Lancaster County, was platted in 1870 following the extension of the railroad to the area. The town was named after Sir Walter Scott’s 1814 historical novel “Waverley,” with several of its street names inspired by the novel as well. Incorporated as a village in 1885, Waverly has grown steadily over the years. Between 1921 and 1966, the town consolidated its school district with several surrounding districts, contributing to the development of its educational system.
